Wolf Blass Wines, established in 1966, has grown from a humble tin shed to become one of the world’s most successful and awarded wineries. When Wolf Blass first bought the site for his winery he was delighted to discover that its name ‘Bilyara’ was the Australian aboriginal word for Eaglehawk. The image of this proud bird has become synonymous with the winery and its global success. Wolf Blass quality and flavour are evident throughout the Eaglehawk range of fresh and approachable wines for everyday drinking.
VINEYARD REGION: South Eastern Australia
VINTAGE CONDITIONS: Good spring rainfall flowed by warm to hot conditions in January allowed for an even ripening period, which resulted in very good quality grapes and wine. The prolonged warm, dry weather, with virtually no rain interruptions, allowed the fruit to reach optimum maturity, producing a wine with excellent colour and flavour.
GRAPE VARIETY: Shiraz (70%), Merlot (23%), Cabernet Sauvignon (6%)
MATURATION: Selected parcels were matured with French and American oak.
WINE ANALYSIS Alc/Vol: 13.5%
Acidity: 6.0 g/L
PEAK DRINKING: Best enjoyed while young and fresh.
FOOD MATCH: Great with Chinese five spice pork with Asian greens or a Turkish lamb pizza.
COLOUR: Bright red with ruby hues.
NOSE: A fruit-driven style with lifted aromas of blackcurrants, plums, gentle spices and hints of vanilla.
PALATE: A medium bodied, juicy palate with lashings of dark red berries and plums and a lingering, soft tannin finish.
